DC-area restaurants extend their tasty brunch into Labor Day

An extra day of brunch treats during summer’s holiday finale

Many DC-area restaurants will be extending their brunch service into Labor Day Monday. At Pisco y Nazca, its three-course, Peruvian-inspired brunch will be served and reservations are still available. At Richard Sandoval’s dLeña, bottomless is a recurring brunch theme and the meal is served 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Further south, at Shirlington’s Copperwood Tavern in Arlington, a-la-carte brunch offers a variety of choices.

One of Pisco y Nazca’s first course choices is the Causa Crocante, with panko shrimp, whipped potato and ricotta aioli; or customers can choose from the Tostones (fried plantain slices) with pulled pork, avocado, salsa criolla, Causa Crocante, and ají amarillo mojo. For the second course, the menu offers Pisco y Nazca’s version of Eggs Benedict, the Cholo Benedicto, with sweet plantain cakes, pork belly chicharrón, queso fresco, poached egg, and rocoto hollandaise. There’s also the familiar Huevos Rancheros, featuring two fried eggs, grilled tortilla, pork belly, ranchero sauce, and jalapeño cilantro cream.

At dLeña, there’s a good amount to choose from, with a bottomless-food brunch, offered for $30, or bottomless-drink-and-food brunch for $49. The selection of dishes offered includes enfrijoladas with scrambled eggs, cotija cheese, black bean sauce, pico de gallo, and crema; cazuela with smoked eggs, charred tomato salsa, potato hash, and panela cheese; and birria beef tacos with radish, red onion, cilantro, and green tomatillo salsa. Tuna ceviche with red fresno aguachile, shrimp enchiladas and zarandeado salmon are additional tasty options.

At Copperwood Tavern in Shirlington, customers can start with Fried Green Tomatoes or Jalapeno Cheddar Donuts. The brunch menu also includes favorites like the Chocolate Chunk Pancakes, Shrimp & Smoked Gouda Grits and Blueberry Ricotta Pancakes. There’s also a Lobster Benedict special. Brunch hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
