DC eateries offer Cinco de Mayo food, drink, specials, combos

Celebratory and discounted fare abounds in the DMV

Several restaurants in the Washington, DC area, including Commissary, Joe’s Seafood Place, Nick’s Riverside Grill, Taqueria Loca, and Silverado, are celebrating Cinco de Mayo with special drinks, eats and discounts. Taqueria Loca, which has been operating out of the Good Eats Emporium in Sterling, Va. for one year and has also used dark-kitchen space at Ozzie’s Good Eats at Fairfax Corner, offers a Smoked Pineapple Margarita and Loca Nachos.

During Cinco de Mayo, Nick’s Riverside Grill and Tony and Joe’s Seafood Place in Georgetown are offering tasty tacos and tequila in a combo special for $18. Tacos come in a choice of spicy shrimp, steak and blackened fish.

Commissary will be offering $5 Classic Margaritas and Palomas. In addition to these thirst-quenching choices, customers can satisfy their appetite with “Taco Flights.” Diners can select three tacos from these choices: haddock, grilled chicken, grilled tofu, roasted cauliflower, steak, and mahi mahi, served on corn tortillas.

At Silverado’s, the sizzling fajitas have been a popular staple and will be fired up for Cinco de Mayo. Southwestern influence is embedded in the Tex-Mex inspired fare. The fajitas ($17-$42) start with house-made tortillas, available for one, in combinations, and jumbo sizes for two, with chicken, steak or portobello. Customers can enjoy a topping mania of sorts: cheddar, Monterey Jack, sour cream, sautéed onions, and rice & charro beans come on the side.

Taqueria Loca is whipping up the ultimate nacho extravaganza. The Loca Nachos (starting at $15) come in the form of crunchy tortilla chips, topped with cheese sauce, lime, jalapenos, red onion, pico de gallo, and a juicy trio of pulled pork, brisket, and pulled chicken. Appetizing tacos range from classics like the chicken tinga to Papi’s Al Pastor or the zesty grilled fish with mango habanero puree, avocado-tomatillo salsa, pickled onions, and red cabbage slaw.

The Smoked Pineapple Margarita at Taqueria Loca has been a hit. The salt-rimmed glasses feature Sauza Blanco, smoked pineapple purée, and fresh pineapple juice.

Good Eats Emporium in Sterling and Silverado are available for in-person dining, curbside pickup, and delivery at GoodEatsEmporium.com and SilveradoVA.com or the GAR (Great American Restaurants) app. Taqueria Loca’s fares and drinks can be ordered from Good Eats Emporium Fairfax Corner at Ozzies or with the GAR app.
