New frozen drinks help celebrate the occasion
Coming off a remodel, Bayou Bakery, Coffee Bar and Eatery is welcoming back guests with its version of “Grab N’Geaux,” patio dining and its upcoming delivery program. The Arlington neighborhood gem completed the remodel of its kitchen and refresh of the dining room, and is once again open for business. Plus, seasonal frozen drinks help celebrate the occasion and offer a nod to Guas’s hometown of New Orleans.
Remodel supports Chefs Feeding Families
In the kitchen, Bayou Bakery also replaced flooring and installed cabinetry and shelving. The eatery also indicated “adding a center island with a custom-made wooden top and an open space beneath for oversized rolling containers allows for easy access to flours and sugar,” according to an announcement.
These changes in the kitchen, including a more efficient ventilation system, support the charitable Chefs Feeding Families that Chef David Guas cofounded with RealFoodforKids.org. The venture has thus far served over 80,000 free vegetarian meals to students of Arlington County Public Schools and their families ever since the March shutdown.
Guests will dig it, too
“If we’ve learned anything from this crisis, it’s the importance of being good to each other and taking care of our community,” Guas said. “For us, that starts with good food.”
A new coat of paint helps add hues of pastel blue, yellow, and green to the walls. These new accents help highlight the interior and patio furniture. Bayou Bakery also shared that “new curtains and wall coverings on the exposed brick showcase antique Louisiana maps and a four-foot water meter stamp, an iconic symbol for New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, hand-painted by local artist Ken Matthews.”
The bathroom got a revamp, as well, due to the ongoing COVID-19 health crisis. An arm handle extension to help guests navigate entering the bathroom without the use of a hand is sure to be a popular feature. And the installation of a new vanity with touch-free water faucet, soap dispenser, and hand dryer also represents a timely perk that emphasizes the Bayou Bakery commitment to safety.
Bayou Bakery adds new frozen drinks
Also, a new daiquiri machine supports a rotating line of frozen drinks, which are great for on-the-go in 16-ounce pouches, 32 oz. quarts, and 64 oz. half-gallons. Here’s how the Arlington eatery described the new lineup:
- Hurricane – a riff on the Crescent City classic
- The Dude – a nod to the most famous cocktail to hit the big screen, other than the martini
- White Russian – paying tribute to Jeff Bridges’ memorable character in Guas’ favorite film, “The Big Lebowski”
Bayou Bakery also offers cold beers, bourbon-kicked Mason Jar cocktails, spiked punches, and boozy brunch beverages, including the Bayou Bloody Mary, which is also available in to-go format. Counter Culture Coffee comes in drip and espresso, and there’s a housemade version of Whipped Coffee, too.
The menu’s been shortened but local favorites still abound: Buttermilk Biscuit Sandwiches, Deviled Eggs, Chicken and Smoked Sausage Gumbo, Muff-a-Lottas – a Food & Wine magazine favorite, and the televised sensation, the Arm Drip. Operating hours are from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.
