Todd Thrasher’s Thai Coconut Rum has a story behind the story

Island-influenced Tiki TNT and Potomac Distilling Company in Washington, DC have a unique spirit that will be featured on Esquire Instagram Live ( [@Esquire] May 29, 2020 at 4:50 p.m. local time. The Wharf distilling company’s head, Todd Thrasher, will unveil his Coconut Rum, a craft spirit and the fourth label of the riverfront producer. Unlike many coconut rums, this one does not use extract, but rather finds its genesis in 60 pounds of raw Thai coconut heated to 180 degrees.
The Potomac Distilling Coconut Rum story continues:The heated coconut is then poured into a “gin basket” to integrate those vapors into the liquid. As it’s proofed down to 80, it’s “dehydrated, toasted, and left to sit at room temperature for 80 days.” A dive spot where Thrasher met his wife, Maria, is where the story really began. The couple discovered a blend with pineapple, washing down the saltiness following a long couple of hours underwater. Today, that distillery is known as the Malibu Distillery.
“I wanted something that is really smooth, clean, and naturally produced,” says Thrasher. Once businesses reopen, the Coconut Rum will also be served at Tiki TNT. Catch additional feature spots of the rum on @Tiki_TNT on Tuesday and Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
