Mission Group’s third bar concept takes former Irish bar location
The much-awaited The Admiral bar is open now in Dupont Circle at the old site of James Hoban’s Irish Restaurant. Mission Group, which is behind Mexican-style restaurants Mission Navy Yard and Mission Dupont, in addition to Hawthorne, is previewing The Admiral for four days prior to its grand opening celebration December 26. The Admiral is named after Admiral Samuel Francis DuPont, for which Dupont Circle is named. It offers 6,500 square feet of space, with three bars and 18 big screen televisions, including a 220” TV wall.
The new Dupont Circle watering hole will offer plenty of beer, with 12 draft lines. The outside patio provides 3,000 square feet of space and a separate dining section. For private events, The Admiral features a fourth bar area and plenty of room for events.
Designed by Roberto Hernandez, Mission Group corporate chef, the menu packs a diverse set of appetizers, sandwiches and entrees. On top of all of that, there’s a raw bar that features oysters and shellfish. Don’t miss the daily happy hour, and definitely consider the bottomless brunch and rental-free event spaces.

Nightlife in D.C. is vibrant. The Admiral will add to the scene with a weekend late-night DJ and music-filled setting. But those looking for the recovery brunch will need to wait until January, however. From December 20-23, The Admiral’s preview menu awaits the bar-curious. As of December 26, the bar will offer Hernandez’s full menu.

The setting for all of this was created by Ten Coates of Canvas Architecture. The Admiral’s construction was managed by John Gardner of Wallace Consulting and Construction. In refurbishing the building, construction teams used 5,000 pounds of oak, two tons of architectural metals, as well as “1,400 feet of custom LED lighting.” according to the restaurant company’s announcement.
“It’s more fun to eat in a bar than to drink in a restaurant” is a company motto. Mission Group is owned by Fritz Brogan and Reed Landry. Check out their Admiral, one of the latest bars to add energy to the Dupont Circle neighborhood.
