Menu reflects eclectic, global flavors, underpinned by British- Indian inspiration
Gerrard Street Kitchen opens today, November 18, at the Darcy Hotel. The restaurant replaces Siren by RW, which occupied the same space, and closed January with plans for a relocation. Gerrard Street Executive Chef Jaime Velasquez helms the kitchen with an eclectic mix of international flavors. The chef’s global cuisine taps flavors of Japan, Morocco, and South Asia, with hints of British-Indian culinary influence throughout.
Eclectic menu, medley of flavors
Starters include Paratha Tacos and Thai Eggplant Jenga. The Gerrard Street Kitchen dinner menu features signature dishes that include Chicken Tajine, Beef Wellington, and Robata Lamb Mishkaki. There will be other dishes prepared tableside. One such wonder is the Bibimbap with Hamachi. Guests will see it “sizzles as it cooks in pottery” heated in an open flame. A server finishes the dish by combining the rice, egg, and Gochujang sauce in front of diners.
Updated: Gerrard Street Kitchen begins brunch service
“Our creations elevate the authentic street-style foods of countries such as Japan, Korea, and India,” said Chef Velasquez in a statement. “We’re proud of our attention to detail and the research we’ve done while visiting these countries.”
The management team at Gerrard Street Kitchen plans a bottomless Bloody Mary brunch Saturday, November 30. During dinner service, otherwise, expect several creative craft cocktails, mocktails and a variety of beer and wine options.
Literary club, jazz-inspired decor
Taking cues from the literary clubs and jazz hangouts of early 20th century London, Gerrard Street Kitchen aims to provide a “sophisticated and comfortable neighborhood vibe,” noted an opening announcement from the restaurant. Atlanta-based BLUR Workshop struck a design with a neutral palette of deep mango and beige.
Wood and brass accents reflect throughout the space and there’s an art deco feel thanks to mirrored gilded-glass columns. This Darcy Hotel restaurant also features black and white paintings from the 1920s.
There is certainly theater in Gerrard Street’s decor. A grand entryway with soaring ceilings and a marble-topped cocktail bar will span the length of the restaurant, Gerrard Street Kitchen comprises 2,700-square foot space and seats 110 guests.. Here are other features to look for when visiting this vibrant unveiling at the Darcy Hotel:
- Sushi/raw bar
- an intimate chef’s table enclave
- private dining for up to 20
- a variety of cozy banquets
- communal table
- an outdoor patio warmed by fire pits
Desserts, hours
Dessert offers a grand finish. The restaurant will feature a Pear William, Blueberry & Yuzu Tart, and a chocolatey Duo Crème Brûlée, as the restaurant opens. Gerrard Street Kitchen offers the seasonal Apple Tart Tatin, served warm with homemade brown butter ice cream.
