Cambria opens new hotel, breaks ground on future Capitol Riverfront spot

Cambria also ranks as top business traveler hotel

Rockville, Md.-based Choice Hotels International opened the Cambria Milwaukee Downtown, its third hotel in Wisconsin, but its first in the City of Milwaukee. Cambria Hotels has been expanding rapidly across the United States. In early October, Choice Hotels broke ground on the Cambria Capitol Riverfront hotel in Washington, D.C. At the time, Choice had already opened eight Cambria locations in 2019.

The Cambria Milwaukee Downtown offers 132-rooms in a four-story hotel. Modern fixtures, abundant lighting and plush bedding are custom touches in the newest Cambria. It joins Milwaukee’s Cambria Hotel Appleton and the Cambria Hotel Madison East. Musicians, craft beer providers and restaurants participated in an October-themed event, celebrating the opening. Milwaukee Craft Brewers included Lakefront Brewery, MobCraft Beer Brewery, Third Space Brewing, O’so Brewing Company and Milwaukee Brewing Company. which are suppliers to the hotel’s restaurant and bar.

414 Kitchen + Bar, the hotel’s restaurant, offers top amenities, including a gourmet bar and restaurant. The eatery features regional cuisine, small bites, local craft beers and specialty cocktails. Cambria Hotel Milwaukee Downtown opened at 503 North Plankinton Ave. The location is surrounded by top regional businesses and entertainment destinations, including the Wisconsin Center convention venue. Murphy Development Group developed the hotel and Concord Hospitality manages it.

In D.C., Cambria’s Capitol Riverfront hotel at 69 Q Street Southwest will open in early 2021. The Capitol Riverfront area is growing by leaps and bounds and is valued by locals and visitors for its proximity to Nationals Park and the new Audi Field soccer stadium. The neighborhood also offers quick access to the Capitol, the National Mall, Smithsonian museums, and Yards Park, noted the hotel’s announcement.

“The Cambria Washington D.C. Capitol Riverfront is perfectly positioned in one of the city’s most exciting neighborhoods, just blocks from bustling development projects that are sure to appeal to business and leisure guests alike,” said Janis Cannon, Choice Hotels senior vice president, Upscale Brands, in a statement.. The hotel will maintain the cornice from the site’s original row house and situate it above the reception area.

D.C.-based developer Donohoe Development and Koucar Management are co-developers of the hotel. D.C. Councilman Charles Allen; Pat Pacious, Choice Hotels president and chief executive; Evan Weisman, Donohoe Development Company executive vice president, Donohoe Development Company; Fredrica Kramer, co-chair, Near Southeast/Southwest Community Benefits Coordinating Council; and Thomas Penny, III, Donohoe Hospitality Services president were in attendance for the riverfront hotel’s opening.

Choice also opened Cambria Downtown-South Boston in Massachusetts in September. According to the Business Travel News’ 2019 Hotel Brands Survey, Cambria placed first in seven of 13 categories. It is a top brand among business travelers. In addition, it is one of two brands in the top tier for guest satisfaction among upscale brands in the J.D. Power 2019 North America Hotel Guest Satisfaction Index.
