Occidental Grill, El Centro D.F., City Tap ready festivities
The festivities abound during Presidents’ Day. At Occidental Grill & Seafood, mixologist Frankie Jones is preparing for a bipartisan celebration. No politics here, just libations. As an ode to the countless presidents who have served in the neighborhood (the restaurant is just blocks from the White House), Jones is preparing the bar for a presidential evening to remember. A special tribute to bipartisanship is at hand, with cocktails made in honor of three presidents: Barack Obama, George H.W. Bush, and the current president, Donald J. Trump.
Think Don Q Rum, Skyy Watermelon Vodka, and the ingredients and artisanry it will take to raise the holiday outing up a notch.
#44 is a cocktail for Obama. Occidental Grill is featuring this “retreat” cocktail, which is a blend of Don Q Spiced Rum, coconut water, blackberry, pineapple, and club soda mixed up in style for this special spotlight on Hawaii. #41 is a tasteful tribute to the late George H.W. Bush and his own skydiving vacations. The cocktail looks to take Skyy Watermelon Vodka, Gran Classico, and orange juice to new heights. For Trump, there’s a mix of carrot juice, cucumber, strawberry, and Q Indian Tonic in #45.
All these drinks at Occidental Grill are aiming to bring the bar together on the holiday.
For those looking southward, El Centro D.F. is featuring a brunch that is served all three days of the long President’s Day weekend. The feast can be as lengthy as you want it with a very special Presidents’ Day bottomless brunch. Small plates and brunch cocktails are just $39 as part of the prix fixe bottomless brunch. Try the chilaquiles, which are a nod to global breakfast—a top 2019 culinary trend from the National Restaurant Association.
City Tap in Penn Quarter is also featuring some specials during the Presidents’ Day Weekend. Sunday, February 17 there will be a late-night happy hours with specials, board games and an open bar. Prix fixe participation is $33. On Monday, February 18, guests will enjoy $9 bottomless mimosas over brunch. Yes, that’s right. $9 for bottomless mimosas to cap off the long holiday weekend.
