New Year’s Eve bites in D.C.: truffles, caviar, lobster for under $100

New Year’s Eve out on the town in the DMV Area isn’t just for princes and princesses any longer. Restaurants and bars in the D.C. area can create memorable experiences that are affordable and accessible. For under $100 per person, there’s a wide range of bites and sips that can be had as we wind down this year and get ready for 2019. New Year’s Eve can include bites of caviar, lobster and Wagyu if we want it to. Check out these local eateries offering special menus and drinking experiences on New Year’s Eve 2019 (NYE2019).

Bayou Bakery, Coffee Bar & Eatery (Courthouse, Arlington, Va.)

New Year’s Eve is served Southern style at Bayou Bakery. Continuing a tradition, the Arlington eatery will offer Hoppin’ John, which is said to be a lucky dish on New Year’s Eve, served with Collard Greens, Benton’s bacon, root beer glazed ham steak and a bounty of G.W. Cornbread for $16. Value-priced cocktails, including the Bayou Bloody Mary and Mississippi Mimosa, are $5 each and pack a good punch to keep the good times rolling.

Brookland’s Finest (Brookland)

To close out the year, Chef Shannan and team will serve a festive family-style dinner on New Year’s Eve. In addition to the regular menu, this three-course special will feature Smoked Shrimp Cocktail with housemade cocktail sauce and Old Bay vinaigrette, Beef Brisket with Napa cabbage coleslaw, green beans and spicy BBQ sauce, and finishing off the meal will be a Gala Apple Pie with Moorenko’s salted caramel ice cream and a glass of Prosecco. The menu, available for two, is $40, and can be scaled up to serve additional guests, in increments of two.

The Capital Burger (Shaw)

The Capital Burger is hosting a Burges & Bowties event, which is the first for this Shaw upscale, neighborhood burger joint. Taking things up a notch, for one night only, the Capital Burger will serve Foie Gras Burgers, Alaskan King Crab Burgers and bourbon flights. Enjoy Elijah Craig, W.L. Weller and High West bourbon flights, and leave the bowties if you wish. All items are priced a la carte.

Chiko (Barracks Row)

Chiko’s brilliance never ceases to amaze us. What about New Year’s Eve dinner restaurant-style but at home while watching “the ball” drop? Chiko is offering dinner for 2 for $55 for delivery or takeout. The NYE to-go package includes Double Fried Chicken Wings With Caviar, Rockfish With Ponzu Glazed Veggies, Cumin Lamb Noodles, Coconut Custard, Shredded Coconut, Toasted Wild Rice.

City Perch (North Bethesda)

Enjoy a five-course tasting menu at this rising-star-of-a-restaurant located in the Pike & Rose development in North Bethesda. Pricing for the evening meal starts at $85 for iPic/City Perch members and $95 for non-members and silver members. An optional wine-pairing for an additional amount is available.

District Winery (Capitol Riverfront)

Reservations are going fast for District Winery’s four-course menu. With a second course option like Roasted Maine Lobster with roasted radish, turnip purée, foie gras-green apple jus, and a third course option that includes Mishima Waygu Beef Duo with roasted carrot, Robuchon potato purée, cherry mustard, and bone marrow vinaigrette, one doesn’t need to wonder why. The four-course menu, with a chance at riverfront views, is $85 per person and optional wine pairings can be added for $35 per person.

The Eleanor (NoMa)

The Eleanor will be throwing an all-night $75 per person bash, staring at 7 p.m., with last call at 2:00 a.m. Make it a D.C. night to remember by booking rooms at the four hotels within walking distance. Enjoy dinner and late-night breakfast buffet, champagne and The Eleanor’s “Champagne of Beers” toast at midnight, and unlimited free arcade games included with the ticket fee.

Gravitas (Ivy City)

New Year’s Eve dinner gets sumptuous at Gravitas. The $95 per person meal taps the tasting menu, which is five courses, and is enhanced with shaved truffle and osetra caviar bites. The third course includes an Oyster Stew, with potato and leek, Dashi essence, fine herbs, and toasted brioche. The fourth-course options will heat up an already-exciting night. Choose from Miso-Glazed Cod with tempura onion, bok choy, baby turnips, roasted Matsutake mushrooms, and Dashi broth, or the Braised Beef Short Rib, with white Sweet Potato Puree, fermented farro, gremolata, and natural jus.

Make the meal complete with beverages from the bar or the optional wine pairings. A complimentary champagne toast is available at midnight.

Logan Tavern (Logan’s Circle)

At Logan Tavern, enjoy appetizers like the Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes, celery root, apple slaw and red pepper coulis, and entrees that include the Filet au Poivre, with Cognac and Peppercorn Sauce, or the Winter Squash Lasagna, with black truffles cream sauce and winter greens salad. These are options on the zesty three-course New Year’s Eve dinner menu. Logan Tavern’s dinner is priced at $56 per person. Diners can splurge and opt for the $72 per person dinner, which includes a bottle of wine for two.

MacNac: Barley Mac (Rosslyn, Arlington, Va.) – bar only

For a casual New Year’s evening, check out New Year’s Eve at Barley Mac. Tickets start at $19 for one premium drink beverage and “hand-passed hors d’oeuvres.” Also included is a champagne toast at midnight! Remember that drink tickets are for select premium bourbons and whiskeys only.

Occidental Grill (Downtown)

At the Occidental Grill & Seafood, revelers can bring on the party with sips and tastes in this there-course prix-fixe menu for $95. Start off with Candy Beet Carpaccio with Brie, Candied Pistachios and Citrus Emulsion. Finish off the meal with Strawberry Shortcake with Champagne-infused Cake and Macerated Strawberries. Sips from mixologist Frankie Jones can be added, and are additional, including a $100 half-ounce taste of rare Hennessy Paradis Imperial Cognac and the Louis XIII Cognac.

Quinn’s on the Corner (Rosslyn, Arlington, Va.)

The Source by Wolfgang Puck has several options for New Year’s Eve, provided there are still reservations available. A $125 tasting menu and a Caviar and Chicken Skins event at the lounge ($50) are two of the delectable options. In addition to these special menus, the Source by Wolfgang Puck will be serving its ever-popular Dim Sum in the restaurant and additional family-style options. Try the 24-oz bone-in Rib Eye Steak with Sichuan Steak Sauce, a Whole Roasted Duckling with steamed buns and wok fried thighs and legs, or the Maine lobster with Xo-Chili sauce. All family style specials are priced at $79.
